Why do I have to register here when I've already filled in a membership form? - Good question! DLGC Committees are naturally cautious when it comes to t'interweb. The Master membership database is held locally on the office computer. The internet database was compiled so that members could add their notable flights. Later it was used to enable members to book in for winter midweek flying and the winter lecture program. As almost a by-product, I added other data,(duty type, card colour etc and a bulk emailing system to allow members to communicate with each other for duty swaps etc.

Then Shirley started using it to send out urgent help requests for evening groups, then the CFI started using it to communicate with his instructors ... and so on and so on ... and of course, I use it a lot to keep you wittily informed of what's happening around the place (don't you just love reading my emails :)

So the internet database is growing, and one day it might become our de-facto standard, but at the moment it isn't. Shirley doesn't have the time (or the salary) to maintain two databases, so we have to do the online one ourselves.
